A practical student teacher from the University of the Free State says she and a colleague were attacked near Lekhulong Secondary School while walking to get lunch.
According to the student, a driver failed to indicate while driving close to the pedestrian walkway. When she and her colleague tried to address the driver, he began threatening them.
The student says she did not back down, knowing her rights. A child, identified as Phemelo Malope, then allegedly beat her and the driver’s wife yelled instead of intervening. The student claims the wife said she was not afraid of the police because they have money to make the case disappear.

The student says she has since opened a case at the local police station.
The University of the Free State and the South African Police Service have not yet commented on the incident.
