MaWhoo has deleted the majority of her Instagram posts amid mounting corruption allegations linked to a high-profile government official. The Ngilimele singer cleared her feed of glamorous lifestyle images, international getaways and luxury purchases, leaving only promotional material for her songs and events.
The move comes days after Ekurhuleni City Manager Kagiso Lerutla was arrested on 20 April 2026 alongside other officials. He faces charges of theft, money laundering, fraud and corruption in a tender scandal reportedly worth over R50 million.
Social media users quickly connected MaWhoo to Lerutla, with many claiming he funded her lavish lifestyle. Online speculation intensified after similar scrutiny fell on influencers Cyan Boujee and Sithelo Shozi. Some netizens flagged the trio to the Special Investigating Unit for lifestyle audits, though the SIU later dismissed the reports as fake news and confirmed no such probe had been launched.
MaWhoo’s Instagram account now displays just 21 posts, down from hundreds. Followers reacted with suspicion. Comments included “From 300 to 21 posts, what are you hiding?” and references to her past demands for a R500,000 monthly allowance. Critics suggested the cleanup was an attempt to distance herself from the scandal.
While celebrities often archive posts for new projects, the timing has fuelled scepticism. MaWhoo has not issued a public statement on the deletions or the allegations. The controversy has kept her name trending for the wrong reasons, with many questioning the source of her previously flaunted wealth.
The incident highlights growing public scrutiny of entertainers’ associations with officials facing serious charges. As the conversation continues online, MaWhoo’s digital cleanup appears to have done little to quiet the speculation surrounding her links to the unfolding tender fraud case.
