TOO LATE TO RUN: How SAPS Pounced on Ekurhuleni Metro Boss Seconds Before His Final Hearing, Details

A senior figure in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) is set to undergo internal disciplinary action following his arrest over the weekend, with a committee hearing that had already been scheduled for next Thursday now complicated by the criminal case.

The official was arrested on Saturday and had previously been expected to appear before an internal disciplinary panel as part of ongoing proceedings related to allegations of misconduct. However, the arrest has now shifted attention from workplace disciplinary processes to a formal criminal investigation.

Although authorities have not disclosed full details of the charges, the case is believed to be connected to wider investigations being handled by the South African Police Service (SAPS). Officials have confirmed that the criminal proceedings will run separately from the internal EMPD disciplinary process.

The EMPD has stated that it is cooperating with law enforcement while also reviewing its internal procedures. A spokesperson noted that the department is aware of the arrest and will ensure all required disciplinary steps are properly followed.

Legal experts explain that while disciplinary hearings and criminal cases can proceed at the same time, internal processes are often paused to avoid interfering with court proceedings or affecting fairness in either process.

The matter has attracted attention due to the senior position of the official involved, renewing public debate about accountability and governance within municipal policing structures.

Further clarity is expected once the accused appears in court and as the EMPD resumes its disciplinary proceedings in accordance with legal and procedural requirements.
