Julius Malema has once again stirred public debate after sharing an old video of Floyd Shivambu addressing claims about the funding of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

In the video, Shivambu speaks about the early days of the party, explaining that it was built from modest contributions rather than large financial backers. The clip was shared by Malema in response to recent allegations made by Kenny Kunene, who suggested that he played a role in funding the EFF.

According to the resurfaced footage, Shivambu rejected such claims, saying the party was formed through the support of ordinary members and small donations. He emphasised that the EFF did not rely on wealthy individuals to get started.

Malema’s decision to repost the video has reignited discussion on social media, with many users debating the truth behind the party’s financial history. Some supported the EFF leader, saying the video clears up misinformation, while others questioned why the issue keeps resurfacing.

Kunene’s earlier remarks had already caused tension, as he suggested he had financially assisted Malema during the party’s formation. This claim has been strongly disputed by EFF leaders, who insist the organisation was built independently.

The renewed attention also highlights ongoing scrutiny around political funding in South Africa. Questions about how parties are financed continue to be a sensitive topic, especially when linked to influential figures.

While the video does not introduce new information, it has added fuel to an already heated debate. For now, both sides appear firm in their positions, leaving the public to weigh the competing claims.

As political tensions continue, the discussion around transparency and accountability in party funding is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
