A 40-year-old former Legal Manager at Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality has been taken into custody in connection with alleged fraud and corruption tied to a municipal tender worth around R686,000.

The arrest was executed by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation as part of ongoing investigations into suspected irregularities in the municipality’s procurement processes. Authorities believe the former official may have used her position to influence the awarding or handling of the tender for improper benefit.

Although full details of the alleged misconduct have not yet been disclosed, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the deal, with the possibility of additional charges or further arrests not ruled out.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on 17 April 2026. It is expected that the court proceedings will provide more clarity on the charges and the direction of the case.

The development underscores continued concerns over corruption within local government, particularly in relation to the management of public funds and tender processes. Law enforcement agencies have in recent years intensified efforts to root out malpractice and hold those in positions of authority accountable.

The Hawks have reaffirmed their stance against corruption, warning that any abuse of public office for personal gain will be met with decisive legal action.

Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud.
