TymeBank in South Africa rebrands to GoTyme Bank

TymeBank in South Africa is officially no more. The South African Reserve Bank has confirmed a major change for the digital banking group.

The SARB confirmed via the Government Gazette on Monday, 13 April 2026, that TymeBank has formally transitioned to GoTyme Bank. The move, first hinted at in late 2025, marks a brand elevation for the neobank as it aligns its South African operations with its expanding international footprint.

While the name change might feel sudden to some, it is a strategic move for consistency. The GoTyme name is already well known in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam. By bringing the South African brand under the same umbrella, the group is signalling its growth and maturity on the world stage.

During the initial announcement, Pontsho Ramontsha, head of corporate communications, said the brand elevation is about reflecting the bank’s focus on customers across the entire economic spectrum.

The rebranding comes at a time when the bank is experiencing strong financial success. Since its launch in February 2019, the digital-only bank has broken industry records.

The name change is not the only shift. The bank is also overhauling its physical presence across South Africa. It is removing its kiosks from Pick n Pay stores in favour of dedicated consumer hubs located within major shopping malls. This move suggests a desire for a more permanent, high-visibility retail presence as it seeks to deepen its relationship with its 10 million-strong user base.

For now, business continues as usual. While the logos on the app and at the new mall hubs will soon carry the GoTyme name, the core digital services of the bank remain unchanged.
