Former Orlando Pirates coach and development specialist Augusto Palacios has praised Nkosana and Mpumi Khoza, saying their contributions to the club deserve more appreciation.

Palacios explained that the efforts of the Khoza family in raising standards may still be influencing the Soweto club positively, stressing that strong leadership off the pitch plays a key role in football success. He added that he previously worked closely with Pirates’ youth system and understands the value of solid internal structures.

He noted that the Khoza name carries significant weight in South African football due to the family’s long-standing association with Orlando Pirates leadership and success, and said the current generation is continuing that legacy with strong commitment and discipline.

According to Palacios, many evaluations of football teams often overlook how important administration and leadership are in ensuring stability, long-term planning, and consistency across the club.

He further stated that during periods when other teams struggled both on and off the field, Pirates maintained direction partly because of influential figures such as Nkosana and Mpumi Khoza.

Palacios added that their presence helps foster professionalism and accountability among players and technical staff, which strengthens the club’s overall culture.

He concluded that sustained success at Orlando Pirates depends on maintaining a healthy balance between strong leadership structures and performance on the pitch, emphasizing that achievements in football are shaped not only by players but also by the systems supporting them behind the scenes.
