Sipho Mbatha, known as DJ Sgqemeza, has broken his silence over his departure from Ukhozi FM on 31 March 2026.

In a statement released on Facebook, Mbatha denied articles that claimed he chose to leave the station. He said narratives had been circulated about his position that appeared to have been used to advance certain internal stories, and that he needed to set the record straight.

His exit comes as Ukhozi FM reshuffled its presenters and added a new lineup. The former breakfast show host confirmed he would not be returning to the station. He said Ukhozi FM did not renew his contract for the upcoming financial year, which is within their right, and that he respects the organisation’s decision.

He further stated that the process and communication surrounding his exit raised concerns, which he escalated to the SABC. Mbatha was a co-host on the Vuka Afrika Breakfast Show alongside Nonhlanhla Buthelezi, known as Mroza.

He said Ukhozi FM offered him an alternative on-air role, but he declined after discussing it with his family and careful consideration.

Mbatha is also an ordained minister. He denied rumours that he had requested to leave to focus on the ministry. He said that was not true and that he did not initiate such a request. He added that the narrative created a false impression that his departure was voluntary and mutually agreed upon.

While he remains respectful of the SABC and Ukhozi FM, he said he is concerned about how certain individuals in management handled the matter. He thanked advertisers and listeners for their support and said he remains available for future opportunities.

Ukhozi FM did not respond to a request for comment at the time of publication.

The station also released five other presenters, including traffic anchor Ayanda Msweli, who started at the station in 2004. Lucky Nkosi, who had been with the station for more than 35 years, is also leaving. Other presenters released include King Sfiso, Zeal Dladla, and technical producer Bonga Dladla, also known as Sphongo.

The radio station has released its new lineup, which includes radio and television personality Velani Mthembu, known as Vee.
