Malema Praised Mkhwanazi – Now They’re Bitter Enemies and the Truth Is Catching Up, Check Details

Julius Malema, Commander-in-Chief of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), publicly voiced his frustration over the slow pace of the investigation into the murder of Kieran “AKA” Forbes. Speaking at a press conference at Moses Mabhida Stadium ahead of an EFF protest, Malema criticised law enforcement for delays and questioned their commitment in handling one of the country’s most high-profile cases.

Despite the EFF’s longstanding support for the police, Malema emphasised that progress in the AKA case had been unacceptably slow, at a time when public pressure for justice was intensifying following the nationwide shock over the entertainer’s death.

Malema’s statements reportedly prompted then-Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of the South African Police Service to request a meeting with General Firoz Khan. The purpose, according to reports, was to provide Malema with updates on the investigation and clarify his position, while avoiding premature comments that could be influenced by the Minister of Police at the time, Bheki Cele.

The incident underscores the tension that can arise when political figures publicly address sensitive criminal investigations, especially those involving high-profile individuals. Malema’s intervention was viewed as a push for transparency and accountability, reflecting the EFF’s broader stance on the responsiveness of law enforcement and the timely delivery of justice.

Observers note that while political involvement can be significant, it also highlights the need to balance public pressure with the integrity of ongoing investigations. Police officials have long warned that premature disclosure of details in sensitive cases can jeopardize evidence collection and affect prosecutions.

This episode also illustrates the political dynamics surrounding major criminal cases in South Africa, showing how public officials, law enforcement, and political parties navigate high-stakes situations. Malema’s 2024 statements remain a notable example of how public criticism from political leaders can influence investigative procedures, communication strategies, and the pace of justice in high-profile cases.

The EFF has continued to stress the importance of accountability, proper investigations, and delivering timely justice to victims. Malema’s comments remain a key moment in the broader narrative of South Africa’s pursuit of justice in politically sensitive and high-profile cases.
