Serious allegations have emerged against senior police official Shadrack Sibiya, with claims that he received millions of rand in improper payments linked to high-profile figures and state contracts.

According to the allegations, Sibiya allegedly accepted R12 million from controversial preacher Shepherd Bushiri in exchange for making a legal matter “go away.” Bushiri has previously faced legal scrutiny in South Africa, though the current claims have not yet been tested in court.

In a separate claim, it is alleged that Sibiya received R2 million from businessman Cat Matlala to fund a Bed & Breakfast venture for his wife. Additionally, an extra R300,000 was allegedly paid toward his son’s wedding expenses. In return, Matlala was purportedly awarded a R360 million contract with the South African Police Service (SAPS), alongside the provision of 20 impala vehicles.

At this stage, the allegations remain unproven, and no formal court findings have confirmed wrongdoing. However, the claims have intensified scrutiny around procurement processes within SAPS and raised broader concerns about governance and accountability in public office.

Observers note that if substantiated, the allegations could have far-reaching legal and professional consequences. Reports suggest that the controversy has already impacted Sibiya’s position, with mounting pressure over his continued tenure.

Authorities have not yet issued a comprehensive public statement addressing the specific claims. Investigations, if initiated, are expected to clarify the facts and determine whether criminal charges or disciplinary actions will follow.
