MKP’s Sibonelo Alleges Chilling Warning At Kgosi Mampuru: “We Were Told Not To Question Cat Matlala”

A fresh political storm is brewing after Sibonelo Nomvalo, a representative of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), alleged that members of his delegation were warned not to ask probing questions during a visit to Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre.

According to Nomvalo, the delegation was cautioned against directing too many questions at a controversial inmate identified as Cat Matlala. The reason given, he claims, was that the individual was considered “dangerous.”

Nomvalo described the warning as deeply concerning, suggesting that it raises broader questions about transparency and accountability within correctional facilities. He indicated that the MKP delegation had intended to engage meaningfully and gather information but felt restricted by the alleged caution.

“The warning itself created an atmosphere of tension,” Nomvalo reportedly said, implying that it undermined the purpose of their visit.

While the exact context of the visit and the matters under discussion remain unclear, the allegation has intensified political debate, particularly regarding oversight of correctional institutions.

At the time of publication, there has been no formal statement from correctional authorities confirming or denying the alleged warning. It also remains unclear whether the caution was issued as a routine security measure or as specific advice related to the inmate in question.

Security protocols in correctional facilities often involve strict guidelines, especially when dealing with inmates considered high-risk. However, Nomvalo’s remarks suggest that the warning went beyond standard procedure.

The claim adds to ongoing tensions between political parties and state institutions, with the MKP positioning itself as an advocate for accountability and transparency. Observers note that such allegations, if substantiated, could prompt further scrutiny of internal practices within correctional centres.

Political analysts caution, however, that without corroboration, the claims remain allegations. They emphasize the importance of verified information before drawing conclusions.

As the matter unfolds, calls are likely to grow for clarification from correctional services authorities regarding what transpired during the visit and whether any restrictions were formally imposed.

For now, Nomvalo’s statement has ensured that attention remains firmly fixed on the events at Kgosi Mampuru — and on the unanswered questions surrounding them.
