YOU ARE NO LONGER ONE OF US: EFF Expels Councillor Over Land Dispute in Sasolburg

The Economic Freedom Fighters has revoked the membership of councillor April Motaung following a public disagreement over the ownership of Mooidraai farm.

Party Secretary-General Marshall Dlamini announced the decision during a gathering with members in Sasolburg on Saturday. He stated that the party had taken disciplinary action after Motaung allegedly went against instructions from party leadership.

Dlamini told supporters that Motaung had breached party rules by claiming to have founded and personally owned the Mooidraai farm. The EFF maintains that it secured the land through a legal process for the benefit of the community, not for individual gain.

Party leaders explained that the land was intended for collective use and should support the group’s goals rather than serve personal interests. Dlamini stressed that the organisation would not tolerate conduct that undermines its land reform objectives.

“The EFF fought for this land for the people, not for individuals,” he said, reinforcing the party’s focus on accountability among its members.

Motaung served as a councillor in the Fezile Dabi District Municipality and held a position in the party’s Central Command structures. His expulsion is expected to have political effects in the district, where the land issue has drawn attention from local residents and party supporters.

The EFF leadership used the occasion to restate its commitment to unity and its wider vision for land reform. Dlamini called on members to prioritise collective ownership and to follow party decisions.

This action marks one of the party’s most notable disciplinary moves in recent months and highlights ongoing tensions related to land redistribution and internal accountability.
