Former SAPS employee Patricia Mashale has rejected claims that she influenced Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Appearing before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating criminal infiltration and corruption in the justice system, Mashale responded to allegations made by two earlier witnesses who suggested she played a role in ending the unit.
Mashale stated she had never spoken to the minister about the PKTT and clarified that her only contact with his office was with official Cedrick Nkabinde, regarding the Sindiso Magaqa murder case.
She emphasized that her longstanding efforts to expose corruption within SAPS since 2008 should not be misconstrued as influencing the minister’s decision to disband the specialized unit.
