ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has called for the immediate arrest of individuals implicated in the ongoing Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, stating that justice should not wait for the investigation to conclude.

Mbalula argued that law enforcement should act on the commission’s preliminary findings rather than await its final report. His remarks have stirred debate between those demanding faster accountability and legal experts warning against bypassing due process.

The Madlanga Commission was established to investigate allegations of misconduct and possible criminal activity within public institutions and has already named several high-profile figures in interim reports.

Legal analysts caution that while public frustration is understandable, arrests require sufficient evidence and proper prosecutorial review to avoid compromising cases or infringing on constitutional rights.

Public sentiment appears to lean toward Mbalula’s position, with many expressing impatience over long investigations that rarely lead to prosecutions. Civil society groups have echoed calls for tangible accountability to restore trust in government institutions.

The National Prosecuting Authority and South African Police Service have not yet publicly responded to Mbalula’s comments. Investigators are reportedly reviewing the commission’s findings to determine if there is grounds for criminal charges.
