Moruleng, North West – With just seven days to go until South Africa’s political calendar marks one of its most significant events, the African National Congress (ANC) is ramping up nationwide mobilisation ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s annual January 8 Statement. This year’s address is scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Moruleng Stadium in the North West province, a venue chosen for its symbolic importance amid ongoing provincial governance challenges.

The January 8 Statement, which commemorates the ANC’s founding, traditionally sets the tone for the year ahead. It outlines the party’s priorities, reflects on achievements, and signals policy directions for both the movement and the government. Party insiders indicate that Ramaphosa’s 2026 address will emphasise unity, rejuvenation, and governance reforms, particularly as the ANC navigates a complex political environment following recent elections and ongoing discussions around the Government of National Unity (GNU).

In preparation, ANC structures are leaving no stone unturned. Officials report a grassroots mobilisation effort sweeping from community to community, branch to branch, and door to door, aiming to reconnect with the electorate and energise supporters ahead of the historic speech. This nationwide drive is intended not only to strengthen organisational discipline but also to reaffirm the ANC’s historical mandate of advancing the people’s struggle.

Party sources suggest that Ramaphosa’s speech will tackle pressing national concerns, including corruption, job creation, economic recovery, and restoring public confidence in government institutions. Citizens are expected to scrutinise the address closely for concrete promises on load shedding, unemployment, crime, and service delivery, reflecting widespread public dissatisfaction with current governance challenges.

The choice of Moruleng in the North West as the venue carries particular significance. The province has experienced governance turbulence in recent years, making it an ideal backdrop for a message of accountability and renewal. Local authorities have welcomed the decision, viewing it as an opportunity to spotlight both the province’s potential and its ongoing issues.

Logistical and security arrangements are already underway to accommodate the anticipated thousands of ANC members and supporters. The party has emphasised disciplined conduct, urging attendees to demonstrate solidarity, respect, and organisational cohesion during the celebrations.

Political analysts note that Ramaphosa’s January 8 Statement will be closely watched by opposition parties, the general public, and ANC loyalists alike, serving as an indicator of how the ruling party plans to approach 2026 and beyond. As the countdown continues, the event promises to be a defining moment for both the party and the nation.
