Controversial Limpopo star Shebeshxt has solidified his grip on South African music with his smash hit “Rato Laka,” emerging as the ultimate crossover song propelling fans into the new year.

The Lekompo-infused track, featuring Naqua SA, Zee Nxumalo, and Slidoo Man, garnered an overwhelming 4,567 votes (and still climbing) in fan-driven polls, cementing its status as the festive season’s undisputed favorite. Released in August 2025, “Rato Laka” meaning “my love” in Sesotho blends emotional storytelling with pulsating rhythms, amapiano grooves, and high-energy Lekompo beats, creating a romantic yet dancefloor-ready anthem that resonated deeply across the country.

Despite Shebeshxt’s personal challenges, including legal issues that landed him behind bars in late 2025, the song’s success proved unstoppable. In a historic twist, he became the first artist to clinch a major Song of the Year title while incarcerated, winning Thobela FM’s prestigious award a key platform for Northern Sotho-speaking audiences in Limpopo. This victory sparked viral discussions online, with fans hailing his resilience and the track’s raw authenticity.

“Rato Laka” exploded on streaming platforms, amassing millions of views on YouTube (surpassing 3 million for the audio alone before the official video dropped) and over 12 million Spotify streams. Its infectious melody and relatable lyrics about love and perseverance turned it into a nationwide obsession, dominating playlists, TikTok trends, and New Year’s Eve parties.

Shebeshxt, born Lehlogonolo Chauke in Lebowakgomo, has long been a polarizing figure in the Lekompo scene known for his bold persona, township roots, and unfiltered style. Alongside peers like Shandesh and Kharishma, he’s helped propel Lekompo from regional favorite to mainstream powerhouse, influencing broader Amapiano and house sounds.

As South Africans crossover into 2026 with “Rato Laka” blasting everywhere, the track not only highlights Shebeshxt’s enduring appeal but also underscores Lekompo’s unstoppable rise. Fans eagerly await his next moves, proving that great music transcends circumstances.
