A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of prosecutor Tracy Brown, who was shot and killed outside her Gqeberha home in August.
The Hawks arrested the 33-year-old man on the N1 near Bloemfontein on Saturday evening, following intelligence that he was fleeing the Eastern Cape. Police confiscated three cellphones during the arrest.
The suspect was processed in Welkom and taken to Gqeberha, where he is expected to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Two other accused have been in custody since September.
During the earlier bail hearing, the court heard that the hit was ordered by an inmate from St. Albans Correctional Centre. Evidence indicated Brown was targeted because she was causing “problems” for a friend of one of the accused, who faced a long prison sentence. She was shot more than ten times.
The investigation continues.
