Jerry Boshoga, a businessman from Pretoria, has been missing since his disappearance on November 18, 2024, in Centurion. What started as a high-profile kidnapping case has since uncovered deeper connections to South Africa’s criminal underbelly.

Initially, Boshoga’s abductors demanded a ransom of R60 million. When the family struggled to meet this demand, the ransom was gradually lowered to R10 million. Despite ongoing negotiations and significant media coverage, Boshoga has not been located, with authorities confirming there have been no verified sightings of him, alive or dead.

Recent testimony from alleged gangster Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala during a parliamentary commission has added new insights into the situation. Matlala alleged that Boshoga was engaged in illegal activities, such as drug production, and that he personally lent Boshoga money for equipment purportedly used in narcotics. Matlala stated that the last confirmed sighting of Boshoga was when he transferred from one vehicle to another while collecting chemical drums, an event that has gained importance in the investigation.

Reports indicate that investigators searching Matlala’s property discovered items that resembled those seen in ransom videos sent to Boshoga’s relatives. This included a distinctive white sheet and firearms linked to a security firm connected to Matlala. Nevertheless, Matlala denies any role in Boshoga’s disappearance, asserting that their relationship was merely social.

The case has brought attention to the connections between organized crime, corrupt networks, and legitimate businesses in South Africa. Lawmakers and civil-society representatives caution that resolving this issue requires more than just arrests or statements; it necessitates comprehensive evidence gathering, witness protection, and transparency to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.

For Boshoga’s family, the ongoing uncertainty heightens their distress, while the public looks on at a case that illustrates how criminal syndicates exploit power and fear to evade justice. Authorities continue to investigate, aiming to deliver justice for Boshoga and clarity on the criminal networks that may be linked to his disappearance.
