A manhunt is underway in Mpumalanga after six inmates escaped from the Lydenburg Police Station in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to police, the inmates broke out of their holding cell by creating a hole in the wall. The escape was discovered during a routine check when officers noticed a leaking water pipe and found the damaged wall. It is believed the suspects damaged a washbasin to make the opening.
The escaped individuals were being held on serious charges, including murder, rape, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Four of the six have been identified as Francisco Vasco Maganja (47), Fana Fenyane (38), Clayton Flank (37), and Sergio Laurenco Mandoza (34). Police are working to release photos of the two other escapees.
Authorities have mobilized resources to recapture the fugitives and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information can contact CrimeStop anonymously at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app. All information will be treated as confidential.
