DA leader John Steenhuisen has clarified the reasons behind the recent replacement of Dion George as Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Steenhuisen stated the change was part of ensuring the party’s most capable individuals hold positions in the Government of National Unity, denying the move resulted from external pressure.
Willie Aucamp has been appointed as the new environment minister. Steenhuisen emphasized the importance of collegiality and excellence in government roles held by DA representatives.
Political analysts have questioned the timing and motivation behind the reshuffle. Some suggest it reflects internal party dynamics rather than environmental policy concerns, while others see it as part of the DA’s ongoing effort to optimize its ministerial team.
