Bonganini Nkosazana Zuma, a daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, has opened a criminal case against her sister, MK Party MP Duduzile Sambudla-Zuma, and two others. The case involves 17 South African men allegedly lured to Russia and now trapped in the war zone in Ukraine.
Bonganini Zuma claims the trio violated the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Act and the Regulation of Foreign Military Assistance Act. She stated that eight of the trapped men are her relatives who were promised employment but were instead handed to a Russian mercenary group.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered an investigation into the alleged illegal recruitment. The government is working through diplomatic channels to secure the men’s return, condemning what it calls the exploitation of vulnerable young people by foreign military entities.
