General Dumisani Khumalo has been reinstated as the head of the South African Police Service’s Crime Intelligence unit. Senior police officials confirmed his return to the position on Thursday morning.
Khumalo had been temporarily removed from his post in late June following his arrest. He faces charges of fraud and corruption related to the alleged improper employment of a 30-year-old individual in a senior role without proper vetting or policing experience.
While reinstated, Khumalo is still bound by his bail conditions, which prevent him from entering the Crime Intelligence offices. The criminal case against him and six other senior officers is ongoing.
