A witness at the Madlanga Commission has alleged he has a direct private line to suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu. Thabiso Mogotsi testified that he has not only communicated with the minister privately but has also visited him at his home.
The claims, which have not been verified, prompted a reaction in the gallery and could raise questions about unofficial channels of influence within government. The commission has not yet confirmed the statements, and Mchunu’s office had not immediately responded to the testimony.
The allegations have increased public interest in the proceedings, which are investigating allegations of corruption and political interference. Observers expect the commission may now seek corroborating evidence or call on Minister Mchunu to provide his version of events.
