Stuart James Scharnick, an associate of suspended official Shadrack Sibiya, has opened a criminal case against crime intelligence head Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo.
The charges of perjury and defamation of character relate to testimony Khumalo gave at the ongoing Madlanga Commission. Scharnick claims that Khumalo made false statements about him while under oath, which were broadcast on television.
Specifically, Scharnick denies Khumalo’s claims that he was convicted of 18 criminal charges and is a “serial hijacker.” He states that these allegations have damaged his reputation.
Scharnick also confirmed that his lawyers are preparing a separate civil lawsuit against General Khumalo.
