Violence returned to the Cape Flats this week as multiple shootings shook several communities, leaving residents in fear and mourning. Police have launched investigations after separate incidents in Mitchells Plain, Skaapkraal, and Delft claimed three lives and left two others injured.

In Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, an adult man was fatally shot on Wednesday evening near the corner of Summit and Crevasse Street. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before spotting the man lying motionless on the pavement. Emergency services were called, but the victim was declared dead at the scene. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.

Earlier in the afternoon, another violent incident unfolded in Skaapkraal, near Lotus River. Three people were ambushed while travelling in a car on the corner of Skaapkraal Road and 6th Avenue. Two of the victims died instantly, while the third was rushed to hospital in critical condition. Police are investigating whether the shooting was gang-related, as the area has seen similar attacks in recent months.

Later that evening, tragedy struck again in Delft, where a young woman was shot and killed in Ravel Street. Neighbours described hearing a single gunshot before discovering the victim’s body near a parked car. The motive is still unknown, and detectives are appealing for any information that could help solve the case.

The series of shootings has once again raised concern about safety on the Cape Flats. Community leaders have called for more visible policing and urgent intervention to stop the ongoing bloodshed. Residents say they are living in fear, as violence continues to erupt without warning.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. “We cannot fight this battle alone,” said a police spokesperson. “The community must stand with us to bring justice to the victims and peace to these neighbourhoods.”
