Former government minister Malusi Gigaba did not appear in court today as investigators continue their discussions with him. Gigaba, who is currently a Member of Parliament, attended a meeting at the offices of the Investigating Directorate against Corruption (IDAC) in Pretoria.

Authorities formally presented him with charges related to procurement irregularities at the state-owned company Transnet. The allegations concern the acquisition of locomotives and other deals during his time as Minister of Public Enterprises.

I have been summoned to appear in court this morning. I do not know what the charges are yet, but I’ll let you know after receiving the charge sheet. An IDAC spokesperson confirmed the engagement but stated that Gigaba is not required to appear in court at this time. In a statement, Gigaba said he would cooperate fully with the process.

The charges are part of a larger investigation into alleged corruption and financial misconduct at Transnet during the state capture era.

No timeline has been provided for potential next steps, and the NPA has declined additional details pending the outcome of the current engagements. Gigaba continues in his parliamentary duties amid the unfolding inquiry.
