An Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillor in Mpumalanga is under investigation for allegedly attempting to extort R6 million from a contractor. The contractor was working on a project in the parliamentary town.
The accusation presents a challenge for EFF leader Julius Malema, who has frequently spoken out against corruption. The party now faces questions about its internal oversight and commitment to accountability.
Malema and the EFF are expected to address the allegations publicly. How the party handles the situation will be closely watched, as it could impact its reputation. The case is currently under legal review.
