The embattled Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, has brought in a well-known political communicator to help him deal with a growing crisis surrounding his name.

Mchunu, who is currently on special leave, has appointed Sithembiso Mshengu to manage all his public communication as pressure mounts from the Madlanga Commission and the parliamentary Ad Hoc committee.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Mchunu confirmed that Mshengu will now handle all media queries and public statements on his behalf.

The minister, whose reputation has been hit by recent revelations, said the move is part of an effort to ensure that communication around his case is managed properly and professionally.

“The Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu, has appointed Mr Sithembiso Mshengu as his personal spokesperson with effect from 5 November 2025,” the statement read. “He will handle all communication related to the Madlanga Commission, the Ad Hoc Committee, and any other political matters during this period.”

Before this appointment, Mchunu often dealt with the media himself, choosing to speak directly when necessary. However, insiders say the ongoing allegations have made it necessary for him to bring in a professional to help control the narrative and restore public confidence.

Sithembiso Mshengu is not new to the political scene. He rose to prominence in 2017 as part of the CR17 faction that supported President Cyril Ramaphosa in KwaZulu-Natal.

He also served as a spokesperson for former eThekwini mayor James Nxumalo before becoming a member of the provincial legislature after the 2019 elections.

However, Mshengu lost his seat following the 2024 elections, when the ANC suffered a major defeat to the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) in KwaZulu-Natal.

Now, with his political experience and strong media background, Mshengu is expected to help Mchunu navigate what may be one of the toughest periods in his career.

Mshengu confirmed the appointment, saying he is ready to help the minister manage all communication matters during this challenging time.
