Two men were tragically killed in a severe collision between a car and a truck in the Durban Central Business District (CBD) on Friday morning.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Anton Lembede and Stalwart Simelane streets. According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the car T-boned the truck, with the force of the impact causing the car to go underneath the larger vehicle.
Upon arrival, paramedics described a scene of “carnage,” finding the driver and passenger, both believed to be in their thirties, severely entrapped in the wreckage. The Ethekwini Fire Department was dispatched to the scene to assist with the complex extrication.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, both men had sustained major, fatal injuries. They were declared deceased at the scene. The area was cordoned off and handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for investigation.
