The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will deliver a crucial ruling on Monday regarding whether a witness can give testimony behind closed doors.
The identity of the witness has not been disclosed, but it is believed the individual may belong to a specialized police unit, such as the Gauteng Counterintelligence Team or the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team. These units have been praised in previous testimony for their work dismantling criminal networks.
The commission confirmed the witness is not Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo, who has yet to finish his own testimony after falling ill.
The ruling will determine if the public and media will be excluded from the hearings to protect the witness and the sensitive nature of the evidence. The testimony is expected to last for several days.
