Face the Music Alone: ANCYL Refuses to Shield Leaders Tainted by Madlanga Probe

Collen Malatji, president of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL), has called on ANC leaders implicated in the Madlanga Commission’s findings to either prove their innocence or resign, saying they must “face the music alone.”

Malatji’s remarks come amid mounting pressure on senior ANC officials named in the probe to be held to account without shielding from the party. He emphasized that the youth wing is not interested in collective protection or silent complicity.

He said individuals alleged to have committed wrongdoing must address the allegations on their own merits rather than relying on party insulation. They should either provide proof that they are not guilty or step aside to allow full transparency.

The Youth League’s demand comes as part of growing internal calls for integrity and accountability within the ANC.

The Madlanga Commission, tasked with investigating various allegations of misconduct and constitutional issues, has named several ANC leaders. While the list of names and specifics has not yet led to definitive action against all involved, ANCYL insists those currently under suspicion cannot remain in limbo.

ANCYL expects those implicated to respond publicly. Should they fail to clear their names, the Youth League argues they must resign from any official positions to preserve public trust in the party.
