Actress and entrepreneur Tebogo Thobejane has taken a powerful stand against the abuse and violence that have plagued her life, declaring she will no longer remain silent. Speaking out about her experiences with physical violence, bullying, and emotional abuse, Tebogo shared her story of survival and strength, unveiling the Botlhale Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting gender-based violence (GBV) and online bullying in South Africa.
“I’ve been through things that many people wouldn’t survive – but I’m still here,” Tebogo said, asserting her determination to fight back and use her voice for those who feel voiceless.
The launch of the Botlhale Foundation comes at a significant time, as controversial businessman Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala – allegedly linked to an attempted murder case involving Tebogo – prepares for his court appearance at Alexandra Magistrates Court on July 11, 2025. Matlala has faced several legal issues in the past, including a previous arrest related to state tenders and the discovery of firearms during a police raid.
Tebogo’s personal link to the case underscores the urgency of her foundation’s mission. She pointed out the dangers women face daily in South Africa, saying, “Being a woman in this country is one of the most dangerous things.” Her foundation’s name, Botlhale, meaning wisdom, reflects the hard-earned lessons from her painful journey.
“I’m choosing to be the voice I never had,” she said. “For every girl bullied online and every woman who’s survived violence but was met with silence instead of support.”
The Botlhale Foundation aims to tackle abuse on multiple fronts—physical, emotional, digital, and psychological – and provide a safe space for survivors to heal, speak out, and find justice. It also seeks to build a movement of people, especially women and children, who no longer want to suffer in silence.
Despite the risks of standing up against powerful individuals like Matlala, Tebogo refuses to be intimidated. “The silence ends here,” she declared. “My story – and so many others – deserve justice and dignity.”
Her bold new chapter is not just about personal healing; it’s about sparking a national movement against abuse. With the Botlhale Foundation, Tebogo hopes to empower others to rise above their pain and take back their power.
