South African police have announced a major breakthrough in a series of high-profile violent crimes. Three firearms seized from a suspected crime figure have been forensically linked to 18 different murder and attempted murder cases.
The suspect, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, is alleged to be connected to a string of assassinations, including the killings of a popular Soweto DJ, a Sandton businessman, and a music promoter. The shootings took place in locations such as nightclubs, parking lots, and homes.
According to police, ballistics testing matched the seized weapons to bullets recovered from 18 crime scenes across Gauteng and other areas. Investigators describe this as a significant development in a large-scale investigation into alleged hit-for-hire activities.
The guns were reportedly discovered hidden in Matlala’s luxury vehicle and a safe house. The findings suggest a single source for violence that had previously appeared to be isolated incidents.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full scope of the alleged operations and identify any accomplices. The public is awaiting further details as the case develops.
