Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi concluded his three-day testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in July 2025 to investigate corruption, political interference, and crime syndicate infiltration in South Africa’s police and prosecution systems.
He presented evidence including WhatsApp messages and letters implicating senior SAPS officials like National Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and former Police Minister Bheki Cele in misconduct and efforts to derail investigations. Media reports have questioned the testimony’s evidentiary strength, while social media users accuse outlets of bias, and the commission now proceeds to witnesses providing supporting evidence.
