A Safa National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Bloemfontein ended in chaos after an alleged altercation between Safa president Danny Jordaan and committee member Simphiwe Mkhangelwa. Reports claim the meeting collapsed after Jordaan allegedly “manhandled” Mkhangelwa, triggering unrest among those present and forcing an abrupt halt to proceedings.

Witnesses say the clash broke out during heated discussions, though the precise cause of the confrontation remains unclear. What is certain, however, is that the severity of the situation left little room for the meeting to continue. The incident shocked many, as NEC meetings are crucial for Safa’s governance, policy-making, and football development in South Africa.

The NEC plays a central role in shaping the direction of the sport, and this public breakdown has raised questions about unity within Safa’s leadership. Concerns are mounting that such incidents could erode public trust in the organization’s ability to manage itself and the game.

Neither Danny Jordaan nor Simphiwe Mkhangelwa has issued a statement about the matter. Stakeholders, including fans and community members, are calling for answers and accountability, pressing Safa to act swiftly in addressing the fallout. Many believe the situation highlights deeper issues around leadership style, communication, and professionalism within the football body.

The collapse of the meeting marks a troubling moment for Safa, putting pressure on the leadership to restore order and credibility. Observers say the organization must work on fostering respect and better conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent similar disruptions in the future.

As the story unfolds, all eyes remain on how Safa will respond—whether through investigation, mediation, or broader reforms. For now, the incident underscores the challenges sports bodies face in balancing high-stakes decision-making with the need for stability and cooperation.
