Inkhosi Simphiwe Zuma, a traditional chief from Impendle in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands and a relative of former president Jacob Zuma, has been charged with a third murder while already in prison.

The 44-year-old leader, who is the chief of the Amanxamalala tribe, was already facing two previous murder charges. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker confirmed that investigators uncovered new evidence linking him to another killing while reviewing past cases.

The new charge significantly complicates his legal situation. Legal experts note that if convicted on all counts, he could face multiple life sentences.

The case has sparked debate within his community. Some residents support the police’s actions and are calling for accountability, while others believe he is being unfairly targeted because of his famous family connections.

The state has stated it will proceed with the case, citing what it calls compelling evidence. Investigators have indicated that more revelations may emerge as the investigation continues. The upcoming court proceedings will be closely watched, as the case tests the judicial system’s handling of a high-profile defendant in a position of traditional authority.
