The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is set to provide an update on its progress and future plans. The commission’s start was delayed due to the Justice Department’s failure to secure necessary equipment and materials on time, which led to the suspension of two senior officials.
The inquiry is now scheduled to begin its public hearings on September 17.
President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission following serious allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Commissioner Mkhwanazi has claimed that criminal syndicates have infiltrated the highest levels of the South African Police Service and the national government. His claims include implicating top police officials and government ministers in alleged organized crime activities.
The update from the commission will outline the next steps in its investigation into these claims.
