The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has confirmed it has received multiple letters from civil society organizations demanding the removal of Floyd Shivambu as its Secretary-General.

Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela stated the party is carefully considering these concerns. He acknowledged that the calls represent a significant part of society that believes the party’s leadership must be held to high standards.

While the exact reasons in the letters were not made public, sources indicate they relate to past controversies from Shivambu’s time in the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), including questions about financial conduct and political integrity.

Shivambu, who recently left the EFF to join the MK Party, was appointed to the senior role last month. His appointment has received mixed reactions, with some praising his experience and others questioning the decision.

The party spokesperson assured the public that the leadership is taking the matter seriously and is committed to transparency and accountability.

The MK Party, founded by former president Jacob Zuma, is a new political force. However, internal tensions over leadership choices are now challenging its momentum.

Floyd Shivambu has not yet publicly responded to the calls for his removal. The party has not announced if it will start a formal review process.
