In a significant legal ruling, former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has lost a civil case against his former club. The South Gauteng High Court has ordered Mosimane and his agency, MT Sports, to repay R7.9 million to Mamelodi Sundowns.
The dispute stemmed from Mosimane’s departure from the club in 2020. The court found that the money, paid as an agent’s commission when Mosimane signed a contract extension that year, must be returned with annual interest of 7%, dating back to 2021.
Mosimane had signed the extension but left the club just a few months later to take up a head coaching role with Egyptian giants Al Ahly. His eight-year tenure at Sundowns was highly successful, during which he led the team to 11 major trophies.
The case, which has been ongoing for years, was finalized by Judge Shaanaz Mia on Friday. This ruling brings a conclusive end to the long-standing legal battle between the celebrated coach and the Premier Soccer League champions.
