Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton McKenzie has appointed law firm Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH) to investigate allegations against PA Deputy President Kenny Kunene.
The move comes after claims linking Kunene to a criminal syndicate allegedly led by Katiso “KT” Molefe, who is accused of involvement in the 2022 murder of musician DJ Sumbody.
Kunene has resigned from all public positions and has been suspended from political activities in the party until the investigation is complete.
McKenzie said the party chose CDH after reviewing several firms to ensure transparency and independence, noting that the first options considered had ties to PA-linked businesses.
CDH is one of South Africa’s leading law firms, known for its work in corporate governance, investigations, and litigation. The investigation will look into Kunene’s possible connections to criminal activities and the impact on his political role.
The PA says the contract with CDH will be signed immediately, and the findings will be made public once the probe is concluded. Kunene has welcomed the investigation and pledged to cooperate fully.
The results are expected in the coming weeks and could affect both Kunene’s future in politics and the PA’s image ahead of upcoming elections.
