“Black People Are Very Lazy” – Gayton McKenzie Reveals

The contentious opinions that Gayton McKenzie, the head of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and the Minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, holds regarding race and work ethic have been reignited as a result of the resurfacing of an old video of McKenzie on the internet. In the video, McKenzie can be heard emphatically stating the following:

“I am not afraid to say that people of African descent are lazy.”

Fuck y’all that says all whites are racist, in the event of a fire there r sum whites I’ll save b4 I save sum blacks!!!!

— Gayton McKenzie (@GaytonMcK) August 18, 2011

After McKenzie recently “came out guns blazing” in response to a joke that was made by a group of young boys during a podcast recording, the footage, which is believed to be from a previous public engagement, has gotten additional attention. Although it is not obvious what the joke was about, it appears that it was the impetus for McKenzie to once again confront the problems that he believes are preventing Black South Africans from achieving their full potential in terms of both economic and social advancement.

McKenzie, who is well-known for his straightforward and frequently confrontational approach, has advocated on multiple occasions that Black South Africans need to take greater initiative in order to acquire wealth and seize chances presented to them. When it comes to making changes, he frequently cautions against relying entirely on the policies of the government or blaming historical injustices without assuming personal responsibility for the situation. Supporters assert that McKenzie’s words, despite their harshness, stem from his desire to see Black communities flourish as a result of hard labour, entrepreneurialism, and self-reliance. They contend that he communicates unsettling realities, which many leaders avoid speaking out of fear of the consequences of doing so.

His comments, on the other hand, have been criticised for being irresponsible and offensive. They have accused him of generalising and diminishing the difficulties of millions of people who are confronted with systematic impediments to achievement. There are many who say that comments of this nature divert attention away from tackling the underlying inequities that continue to influence the economic reality of South Africa. The video has been rediscovered, which has resulted in intense conversations on social media. Some people have praised McKenzie for his forthrightness, while others have condemned the terms that he chose to use. The lawmaker who is known for his outspokenness continues to maintain his unapologetic stance, arguing that painful conversations are required in order for genuine change to take place.
