In a move signaling growing momentum for political realignment, former uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) Deputy Secretary General Nombuzo Mkhize has joined the Mayibuye Consultation Process, a citizen-led initiative for national rebuilding.
The prominent struggle veteran’s inclusion strengthens the cross-sector platform that seeks to address South Africa’s pressing challenges – from economic inequality to governance failures. “Let us unite and build a better South Africa,” Mkhize urged during her formal introduction, emphasizing the need to revive liberation values.
Her participation follows her recent departure from the MKP, with analysts viewing the move as implicit criticism of her former party’s direction. The Mayibuye Process, invoking the historic “Mayibuye iAfrika” call, positions itself as a non-partisan space uniting activists, traditional leaders and civil society.
“This represents a significant shift in South Africa’s political ecosystem,” observed political analyst Thando Mkhize. “When respected veterans like Mkhize choose people’s movements over party structures, it signals deepening demand for ethical, inclusive leadership.”
The initiative comes as public frustration grows over service delivery failures and political infighting. Mkhize’s involvement lends credibility to efforts creating alternative platforms for national dialogue ahead of crucial political cycles.
With its emphasis on grassroots participation, the Mayibuye Process aims to redefine South Africa’s political future beyond traditional party lines, offering a vision of governance rooted in community empowerment and social justice.
