Shivambu Accuses EFF Leadership of Misusing Municipal Funds

Former EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu has made serious allegations against party leader Julius Malema and his allies, claiming they diverted public money from municipalities where the EFF governs. Shivambu alleges the funds were used to support Malema’s lavish lifestyle.

In a leaked statement, Shivambu reportedly described Malema and his inner circle as exploiting their positions for personal gain. “They are taking money from municipalities controlled by the EFF, largely to fund Malema’s lifestyle,” he said. “They use their roles as MMCs to drain municipal finances. It’s disgraceful.”

The accusations have raised concerns among opposition parties and civil society groups, prompting calls for investigations into EFF-run municipalities. Several local governments in Gauteng, Limpopo, and the North West—where the EFF is part of coalition administrations—are under scrutiny for possible financial irregularities.

Shivambu’s comments have fueled speculation about growing tensions within the EFF, especially after his recent distancing from the party’s leadership. Analysts suggest he may be preparing to expose alleged corruption from within.

The DA has urged the Auditor-General and the SIU to investigate the claims. “If true, this is a betrayal of public trust,” said DA spokesperson Cilliers Brink. “Municipal funds should serve communities, not politicians.”

The EFF has not yet issued an official response, but sources indicate a statement may be coming soon as the party seeks to manage the controversy.

Meanwhile, frustration is rising in some EFF-led municipalities, with residents protesting poor service delivery and alleged corruption.

If proven, these allegations could damage the EFF’s reputation, as the party has long positioned itself as a crusader against corruption.
