Fired Top Cop Mpho Kwinika Reveals SAPS Leadership Failures Amid Presidential Probe

Former high-ranking police officer Mpho Kwinika has publicly detailed the events leading to his 2021 dismissal, shedding light on systemic leadership problems within the South African Police Service (SAPS). His testimony comes as President Cyril Ramaphosa’s commission of inquiry investigates governance failures in the police force.

In an interview with Newzroom405’s Xoli Mngambi, Kwinika described how internal conflicts and mismanagement compromised his work and ultimately led to his firing. Rather than focusing on personal grievances, he framed his dismissal as a consequence of deeper structural issues plaguing SAPS leadership.

“The public needs to understand what really happens inside the police service,” Kwinika said, emphasizing that the commission presents a crucial opportunity to address problems that have damaged public trust. He believes exposing the truth behind decisions like his termination is key to reforming SAPS.

Kwinika’s account provides critical insight as Ramaphosa’s inquiry prepares to examine leadership challenges within the police. His experiences highlight how internal dysfunction affects operational effectiveness and erodes confidence in law enforcement.

The former officer’s testimony underscores the urgent need for accountability and systemic changes in SAPS management. As the probe continues, Kwinika hopes his story will contribute to building a more transparent and trustworthy police service that better serves South Africans.

The commission’s findings could lead to significant reforms in how SAPS is led and managed, with far-reaching implications for public safety and institutional integrity.
