EFF leader Julius Malema has strongly denied any association with businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, following growing social media speculation about alleged connections between them.

In a Wednesday night statement, Malema called the claims “malicious, baseless and politically motivated,” insisting neither he nor his wife had ever engaged in business with Matlala. “These falsehoods aim to create a scandal where none exists,” he stated.

The denial comes as Matlala faces increasing scrutiny over corruption allegations involving government contracts. While investigations into his dealings continue, unverified social media posts have attempted to link various high-profile figures – including Malema – to the embattled tycoon.

EFF spokesperson Sinawo Tambo warned the party would pursue legal action against those spreading defamatory content, calling it a smear campaign against their leader.

Political analysts note the timing coincides with heightened tensions ahead of critical by-elections. As authorities intensify probes into Matlala’s affairs, Malema remains adamant, dismissing the allegations as “desperate propaganda” and vowing to protect his reputation.

Matlala has not yet publicly addressed the controversy surrounding these alleged connections.
