Two men and a woman were confirmed dead, and at least twelve people were seriously injured after a bus fell off a bridge in Maidstone, KZN, this morning (Tuesday).
A motorist traveling on Gopalall Hurbans Road reported the incident to the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre at 06:26 after witnessing the bus veer off the bridge and crash through safety barriers.
Reaction officers were immediately dispatched and found the bus lying on its side approximately 25 meters below the bridge. Officers entered the wreckage and rescued several injured passengers. Three people were confirmed dead, while others sustained serious injuries. It is unclear if anyone remains trapped under the bus.
Emergency services are on the scene, and the injured are receiving treatment. The situation remains active as of 07:12.
