Mzwanele Manyi has been removed from his position as chief whip of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in the National Assembly, with Colleen Makhubele taking over the role, party sources confirmed today.
The sudden dismissal has fueled speculation about deepening divisions within the party. Insiders cite Manyi’s perceived arrogance and inability to unify the caucus as key factors in his removal. Some within the MK Party also criticized him for failing to assert the party’s opposition voice in Parliament, allegedly allowing Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema to dominate debates.
“His leadership style alienated crucial members and weakened our position,” a party insider said.
Makhubele, an experienced politician, is expected to adopt a more cooperative approach as the MK Party works to strengthen its role in South Africa’s shifting political environment. Manyi has not yet publicly responded to his dismissal.
The leadership change comes at a critical time for the MK Party as it seeks to consolidate its influence, raising concerns about internal stability and future direction. Further developments are expected as the party grapples with these challenges.
