Mzansi social media erupted in debate after images surfaced of veteran sports broadcaster Robert Marawa posing separately with media personality Pearl Thusi and his rumored new flame, actress and businesswoman Thando Thabethe. The photos, shared by Twitter user Chris Excel, ignited fierce comparisons about Marawa’s romantic choices.
The discussion took a spicy turn as netizens weighed in on whether Thabethe represents an upgrade from Thusi, drawing parallels to recent celebrity comparisons like Enhle Mbali and Black Coffee’s partner Victoria Gonzalez.
Social Media Weighs In:
@i_am_shumani joked: “By the way, Thando has Afcon experience” (a playful nod to Marawa’s sports background)
@Bearded_priest declared: “Grootman upgraded for a reason – no Minnie drama involved” (referencing Thusi’s role in Queen Sono)
@Daniel countered: “This time we say Thando is a downgrade”
@Limpopo_Lady questioned: “When did Thando become SA’s sweetheart? Also, name one celeb Pearl hasn’t dated?”
Thando’s Clapback Credentials
Supporters highlighted Thabethe’s impressive resume as a 947 radio host, award-winning actress (Housekeepers), and entrepreneur – with @lindley_anthony noting: “You forgot she runs her own empire!”
The debate took nostalgic turns as @Maz_on_die recalled: “Pearl once MC’d for a taxi boss linked to Amanda Du Pont back in 2017.”
While neither Marawa nor Thabethe have confirmed romance rumors, the viral moment has spotlighted Mzansi’s obsession with celebrity relationship hierarchies. As one tweep summarized: “From sports commentary to being the commentary – Marawa stays winning either way!”
The buzz continues as fans await Marawa’s next move – both in love and on his popular sports shows. One thing’s certain: when South Africa’s most recognizable baritone voice trends, the nation listens.
