MK Party Criticizes Ramaphosa for Not Addressing Phala Phala Dollars During Trump Meeting

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has criticized President Cyril Ramaphosa for failing to account for the foreign currency discovered at his Phala Phala farm in 2020 during his recent meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

MK Party National Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said Ramaphosa should have been questioned about the $580,000 stolen from his farm, which remains under investigation. The party had previously urged Trump’s administration to probe the matter.

Ndhlela described Ramaphosa as a “fugitive from justice” and argued that the U.S. should have held him accountable under international law, specifically referencing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

“Instead of engaging in diplomatic talks, they should be prosecuting him and demanding answers about how those dollars ended up on his couch,” Ndhlela said. “That farm is a crime scene, and Ramaphosa has yet to provide a credible explanation.”

The remarks come after Ramaphosa’s meeting with Trump, where discussions focused on Trump’s disputed claims of “white genocide” and land expropriation in South Africa. The MK Party maintains that Ramaphosa’s unresolved Phala Phala scandal undermines his credibility in addressing international concerns about governance and rule of law.

The Presidency has previously denied any wrongdoing in the Phala Phala matter, stating that all financial transactions were properly declared. However, opposition parties continue to demand transparency as investigations remain ongoing.
