The MK Party is mourning the loss of Commander Treasure “Sgetit” Thabede, a revolutionary whose life was dedicated to the fight for justice, equality, and dignity for the people of Mkhondo. Thabede, a devoted activist, scholar, and servant of the people, was laid to rest today in a deeply emotional ceremony attended by leaders, comrades, and community members.

“Today we lay to rest a revolutionary, a scholar, and a fearless servant of the people,” said a senior MK Party leader during the funeral, reflecting the shared grief and respect felt by the party and the broader community.

Commander Thabede’s activism began during his student years, where he demonstrated clear and purposeful leadership. He later expanded his efforts into broader political activism, focusing on uplifting farm workers, mobilizing youth, and advocating for better service delivery in historically marginalized areas. In Mkhondo, he was more than a political figure—he was a symbol of hope and discipline, playing a key role in the MK Party’s success in securing 17 out of 19 wards. This achievement highlighted his deep connection with the people and his unwavering commitment to their cause.

The large MK Party delegation at the funeral—including the Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, members of the National High Command, and representatives from the legislature and parliament—demonstrated the profound impact Commander Thabede had within the movement.

While his passing has left a painful void, those who knew him are choosing to honor his purposeful life. “A comrade, a brother, a guiding light, his legacy lives on,” read a message shared by fellow activists. His leadership, discipline, and compassion will continue to inspire future generations of activists and organizers within the MK Party and beyond.

As the MK Party remembers Commander Treasure “Sgetit” Thabede, it not only grieves a fallen leader but also reaffirms its commitment to the values he championed. Though his journey has ended, his revolutionary spirit remains an enduring part of the movement’s soul.
